Government digital services must be accessible to persons with disabilities

Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs Nezar Patria has stressed that government digital services must be accessible to all citizens, including persons with disabilities. He stated that access to public information services is a right for every citizen, and digital transformation must proceed inclusively without leaving vulnerable groups behind. “Services for persons with disabilities are mandatory. They are mandatory to fulfil accessibility for all citizens. So, do not let a citizen be unable to access public information services because of their limitations,” he said in a statement confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday. Nezar made the remarks during an audience with the National Commission for Disabilities at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs office in Central Jakarta. He expressed appreciation for the commission’s input and evaluation regarding the ministry’s public services. “We greatly appreciate the evaluation conducted on the Komdigi site, especially regarding disability access and the features that assist friends with disabilities,” he said. He noted that the ministry has a high commitment to providing disability features on its site, which were created and launched three years ago. He expressed hope that this step would serve as an example for other ministries and institutions in delivering disability-friendly digital public services. “We are perhaps one of the ministries most committed to providing disability features. We created and launched this feature three years ago. We hope all ministries will follow this lead,” he concluded.
