Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi has announced the government will again provide cross-modal transport fare discounts during the 2026 school holidays to enhance public mobility and purchasing power, support tourism, and drive regional economic growth. “In accordance with the directive of the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto, to maintain public purchasing power and price control, the government is re-implementing a transport fare discount policy for the 2026 school holiday period and the 2026/2027 Christmas and New Year holidays,” the Minister stated in Jakarta on Saturday (20/6/2026). He said the policy represents the government’s commitment to delivering safe, secure, and comfortable transport services accessible to the public during periods of increased mobility. Dudy explained the policy is expected to ease public travel costs and encourage greater movement of people and economic activity during the holiday period. He noted the policy is a form of government presence in providing convenience for the public to travel at more affordable costs. “We hope this incentive can be optimally utilised by the public, while also having a positive impact on the transport, tourism, and national economy sectors,” the Minister said. The policy is stipulated in a Joint Decree of the Minister of Transportation, the Minister of Finance, and the Head of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) concerning the assignment to state-owned enterprises in the transport sector to provide transport fare discounts. This regulation serves as the basis for implementing the economic stimulus programme through transport fare discounts during the 2026 school holidays, Christmas 2026, and New Year 2027 periods to support public mobility and national economic activity.
