Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the government has prepared over 100,000 water pumps to anticipate the impact of the dry season on the agricultural sector. This measure is part of efforts to maintain irrigation water supply during the dry period, which is expected to last until October.

According to Amran, the government has been anticipating the dry season through a pumpisation programme implemented in recent years. These efforts are reinforced by the construction of reservoirs, rehabilitation of irrigation systems, and the inauguration of new dams to support water needs on agricultural land.

"Every August is the dry season. August, September, October. November is the rainy season. But we have anticipated it. Why? Because there are more than 100,000 pumps," the Minister told reporters in Jakarta on Monday (27/7/2026).

Amran added that the Ministry of Agriculture continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Public Works to strengthen water resource infrastructure. He noted that irrigation programmes, reservoirs, pumpisation, and the construction of dams have been underway for the past two years.

Director General of Agricultural Land and Irrigation at the Ministry of Agriculture, Hermanto, said coordination with the Ministry of Public Works has been carried out since the beginning of the dry season. The Ministry, together with the River Basin Agency, has also deployed teams to regions experiencing extreme drought to accelerate mitigation efforts.
