Government Delays Electric Motorcycle Incentive Rollout

The government has delayed the implementation of incentives for electric motorcycle purchases by one month. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that the scheme is still under review. “The electric motorcycle incentive was reviewed yesterday, an additional one month,” Airlangga said in Jakarta on Monday. The fiscal assistance programme was originally planned to take effect in June 2026. However, Airlangga explained that the government still needs to thoroughly discuss the implementation mechanism before the official launch. For electric motorcycles, the government estimates the incentive value at Rp5 million per unit. The final amount and scheme of the assistance will be announced after discussions with relevant ministries and agencies are completed. He also expressed the view that the electric vehicle incentive is intended to reduce imports of fuel oil amid global oil prices that are expected to remain high in the coming months. The electric vehicle incentive programme is one of the government’s efforts to accelerate the adoption of environmentally friendly vehicles.
