Government Deemed on Right Track in Directing National Energy Transition

The government is urged to accelerate the transition towards environmentally friendly energy. Ahmad Najib Qodratullah, a member of the House of Representatives Commission XI from the PAN faction, believes that the government’s step to increase the price of non-subsidised fuels cannot be separated from the current global pressures. However, on the other hand, this momentum is deemed appropriate to strengthen the development of domestic-based alternative energy. “I support the government in continuing to innovate in seeking alternatives. The B50 programme as a local biodiesel product must be supported to achieve self-sufficiency in alternative fuel production. Then, the transition process in the renewable energy programme that is environmentally friendly must also continue to be pursued,” Najib said on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. As is known, the government has adjusted prices for several non-subsidised fuels. Pertamax Turbo rose from Rp13,100 to Rp19,400 per litre, Dexlite from Rp14,200 to Rp23,600 per litre, and Pertamina Dex from Rp14,500 to Rp23,900 per litre. According to Najib, this policy is believed to have undergone careful consideration. He also understands public concerns regarding potential further impacts on purchasing power. “It is true that there is always a further impact from fuel price increases, but it must be remembered that the increase has gone through a long process,” he said. He added that the government has so far been striving to keep subsidised fuel prices unaffected amid global crisis pressures and world energy supply chain disruptions. “And the last option in order to maintain stability by raising non-subsidised fuel prices becomes the heaviest option,” he said. Further, Najib sees this policy as a strategic step to maintain long-term stability, while holding back so that subsidised fuel prices remain affordable amid global turmoil. “We just pray that this crisis does not drag on too long, but I see what the government has done so far as extraordinarily good, compared to neighbouring countries that are more severely affected,” he stated.
