Jakarta (ANTARA) — The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), has set electricity tariffs for the second quarter (April-June) 2026 with no increase to protect public purchasing power.

“The public need not worry, as the electricity tariff for the second quarter of 2026 remains unchanged. This decision is made to protect public purchasing power ahead of Eid al-Fitr celebrations, following calculations of various macroeconomic parameters,” said Tri Winarno, Acting Director General of Electricity at the ESDM Ministry, in an official statement in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The government has also urged the public to use electricity efficiently and responsibly to support national energy security.

Under ESDM Ministerial Regulation Number 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs provided by PT PLN (Persero), evaluation of electricity tariff adjustments for 13 non-subsidised customer categories is conducted quarterly based on changes in macroeconomic parameter realisations. These parameters include the rupiah-to-US-dollar exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and Coal Price Reference (HBA).

For the second quarter 2026 tariff determination, the macroeconomic parameters used reflect realisations from November 2025 to January 2026: an exchange rate of Rp16,743.46 per US dollar, ICP of 62.78 US dollars per barrel, inflation of 0.22 per cent, and HBA of 70 US dollars per tonne in accordance with coal DMO policy.

Based on calculations of these parameters, electricity tariffs could have changed under the standard formula. However, to maintain industrial competitiveness, public purchasing power, and national economic stability amid global conditions, the government has decided that electricity tariffs remain unchanged. Similarly, the 25 subsidised customer categories also experience no change.

Additionally, the ESDM Ministry has encouraged PT PLN (Persero) to continue maintaining reliable electricity supply, improving service quality to customers, and optimising operational efficiency to ensure reliable and sustainable electricity provision.
