Government Continues to Monitor Pertamina Tankers After Strait of Hormuz Re-Closed

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Foreign Ministry spokesperson Yvonne Mewengkang stated that the government is continuing to monitor the whereabouts of two Pertamina-owned tankers detained in the Arabian Gulf due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

This monitoring is ongoing after the Strait of Hormuz was re-closed on Saturday (18/4/2026) following a temporary reopening by the Iranian government.

“The Indonesian government is meticulously monitoring developments in the region, including the Strait of Hormuz, through coordination with the Indonesian Embassy in Tehran as well as relevant authorities and partners,” Yvonne told Kompas.com on Sunday (19/4/2026).

She explained that several technical aspects and operational mechanisms on the ground still need attention.

“The safety of the crew, as well as the security of the vessels and all their cargo, is currently the Indonesian government’s priority,” Yvonne said.

As is known, Iran has declared the Strait of Hormuz closed again, and vessels attempting to pass through were reportedly attacked on Saturday (18/4/2026) local time.

Acting Corporate Secretary of PIS, Vega Pita, revealed that as of now, the Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro vessels have not been able to cross the Strait of Hormuz, which is a vital global energy distribution route.

“Both PIS vessels, namely Pertamina Pride and Gamsunoro, are currently still in the Arabian Gulf and have not been able to cross the Strait of Hormuz,” Vega said in an official statement on Sunday (19/4/2026).
