Government considers MSME conditions regarding mandatory halal certification
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), Maman Abdurrahman, stated that the government continues to consider the conditions of MSMEs in the upcoming implementation of mandatory halal certification.
According to him, the conditions of each MSME cannot be equated with medium or large-scale enterprises, as there are limitations that must be considered when applying the regulation.
“Naturally, we from the government will continue to look at the aspect of wisdom in this policy. It does not mean that those (MSMEs) who have not yet processed it will simply be left behind. I believe there will be wisdom and discretion from our side,” said Memma when met in Jakarta on Saturday.
He explained that entrepreneurs with medium to large-scale businesses generally possess higher literacy regarding regulations, as well as more adequate capital. Meanwhile, MSME players still face several limitations.
“Because micro and small enterprises (MSMEs) cannot be equated with our friends in medium-scale businesses. Their legal literacy and understanding are already high, and their capital is also sufficiently strong. However, micro-enterprises have several limitations. Therefore, there will be some consideration from us,” he explained.
Maman previously stated that his ministry would prepare policies to provide ease for MSMEs in facing the implementation of mandatory halal certification.
As is known, the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has a halal certification programme through the self-declare scheme, which is intended to provide ease for micro and small business actors.
“BPJPH has also issued policies regarding self-declaration. This means it is one of the ways to provide ease for our friends in the micro and small business sectors,” Maman said when met at the DPR RI Building, Central Jakarta, last Monday (14/9).
Starting 18 October 2026, mandatory halal certification will apply to food and beverage products, as well as serving services such as restaurants, in accordance with the applicable provisions.
