Government considers awarding state honours to tech figures and ministers
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi has stated that the awarding of state honours and decorations in 2026 is being considered for individuals from various fields, including technology figures with international patents and a number of ministers deemed to have outstanding achievements.
Speaking at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, Prasetyo said, “Individuals who have dedicated themselves in the field of technology to the point of producing internationally recognised technology patents are also among those on the list.”
Prasetyo said the government is still finalising the list of recipients, which is planned to be awarded approximately one week after the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia.
He noted that President Prabowo Subianto has held several discussions with the Honours Council team regarding the figures considered worthy of receiving the honours. Besides technology figures, several ministers are also being considered for the state honours this year.
However, he emphasised that the assessment is not based on whether a person has previously received an award or not. “There are some who have never received one. But the approach is not about whether they have or have not received one before, but rather about their achievements and whether they are considered worthy of receiving the state honour,” Prasetyo said.
He added that the scope of recipients this year will be very diverse, as the government assesses candidates based on their respective contributions and achievements. When asked whether the number of recipients this year would be greater than the previous year, Prasetyo said the government could not yet confirm as the finalisation process is still ongoing.
The awarding of the state honours and decorations will take place at the State Palace as part of the series of events commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia. “The state honours and decorations will be awarded this year by the President of the Republic of Indonesia to individuals, government institutions, or organisations for their service, achievements, dedication, and extraordinary loyalty to the nation and state,” a spokesperson stated at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Friday.
