Government Confirms No Increase in Fuel Prices
The government has confirmed that there will be no increase in the price of fuel oil (BBM). This assurance was issued in response to circulating rumours of a planned fuel price hike. State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that relevant parties, including the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) and Pertamina, had held discussions following the issue. The decision was taken under the direct instructions of President Prabowo Subianto. “Therefore, we need to convey that after coordination, in this case the government and the Ministry of ESDM together with Pertamina and on the instructions of Mr President, Mr President always prioritises the interests of the people and society in making a decision,” Prasetyo told reporters on Tuesday (31/3/2026). “For that reason, Pertamina states that Pertamina will not make any price adjustments for either subsidised BBM or non-subsidised BBM,” he continued. He urged the public not to be influenced by unclear and unconfirmed news. The government, Prasetyo said, is committed to maintaining price stability to protect people’s purchasing power. “We hope that with this statement, the public can get clearer, more accurate information and we hope the public does not need to panic,” he said. He stated that the government also guarantees the availability of BBM. The public is asked not to worry. “No need to be anxious because the availability of BBM is guaranteed by us. We guarantee it. And there will be no price adjustment,” he said. “That is what we can convey. Once again, happy activities to all Indonesian people,” Prasetyo continued. DPR Appreciates Government The House of Representatives (DPR) appreciates the government’s decision not to raise fuel prices. The DPR asks the public not to panic. “This afternoon, the DPR gives appreciation to the government which, after communicating with various parties and listening to input from various parties, including the People’s Representative Council of the Republic of Indonesia,” said Deputy Chairman of the DPR RI Sufmi Dasco Ahmad to reporters at Nusantara III, Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (31/3/2026). “Just now, it was announced by the State Secretary Minister representing the government that the government has no plans to adjust the prices of subsidised BBM or non-subsidised BBM, amid rumours circulating in society of an adjustment on 1 April tomorrow,” Dasco continued. Dasco assured that the DPR will continue to monitor and ensure the fuel needs of the people. He asked the public not to panic and not to hoard BBM. “Thus, we monitor that today there are queues in some areas at petrol stations, so we urge with the government’s announcement that there is no plan for price adjustment of subsidised or non-subsidised BBM, meaning that starting tomorrow the same prices will still apply, so the public does not need to panic, the public does not need to queue, and especially not to hoard BBM,” he said.
