Government Claims Village Cooperative Programme Could Save Public Rp33 Trillion
The Head of the Indonesian Government Communication Body (Bakom), Muhammad Qodari, stated that the Village/Sub-District Red and White Cooperatives (KDKMP) provide tangible benefits, including reducing expenditures on essential goods such as LPG and cooking oil by a total value of Rp33 trillion.
“The market price for LPG is currently around Rp20,000 per 3 kg cylinder, but it is Rp16,000 at the cooperative. MinyaKita is usually Rp21,000 on the market, but Rp15,700 at the cooperative,” Qodari said during a press conference at the Bakom Office Auditorium in Jakarta on Wednesday.
This price difference plays an important role for households in Indonesia, given that an average household with four family members uses approximately four gas cylinders and four litres of cooking oil per month. He referred to data from the Ministry of Population and Family Development indicating there are 74 million families in the country as of 2025. Considering the number of families and the average household consumption, the KDKMP can support significant family expenditure savings.
“Therefore, in one year, the public can actually save around Rp33 trillion,” Qodari said. The breakdown includes savings on gas cylinders of Rp14.2 trillion, calculated by multiplying four gas cylinders per family by 12 months, by 74 million families, and by Rp4,000—the difference between the market price and the cooperative price. For cooking oil, the total savings can reach Rp18.82 trillion, derived from multiplying four litres of oil by 12 months, by 74 million families, and by a price difference of Rp5,300.
“For families who meticulously calculate their daily expenses, this is a meaningful saving. This figure is not merely a calculation on paper or empty talk; it is a reality that will be directly felt by the public on the ground,” he remarked.
On that occasion, Qodari said the government is targeting the construction of 80,000 KDKMP units across Indonesia. The inauguration of 1,061 KDKMP by President Prabowo Subianto in May marks the initial stage of expanding this priority programme.
