Government Claims Middle East Conflict Makes Indonesia More Attractive to Investors
The government claims that the Middle East conflict is making Indonesia more attractive to investors. Tensions in the Middle East are instead opening new opportunities for Indonesia, as investors begin to eye the country as a more stable and promising investment destination. Political stability, security, and a well-maintained investment climate are the main attractions for investors to plant long-term capital in Indonesia. Indonesia’s non-aligned foreign policy and the government’s efforts to reduce economic uncertainty strengthen its position as a strategic investment destination amid global dynamics. Jakarta, IDN Times - Investment Minister and Downstreaming/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Rosan Perkasa Roeslani revealed that the tensions occurring in the Middle East region are instead opening opportunities for Indonesia. He mentioned that investors who usually operate through that area are now engaging in intensive communications with Indonesia. The interest from these potential investors arises because they see Indonesia as an increasingly promising investment destination amid the current global situation. “Investors passing through Middle Eastern countries are also speaking intensively with us, and we are actively meeting with these potential investors, and they see Indonesia as becoming even more attractive,” he said at Commission XII of the House of Representatives (DPR RI), Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). 1. Political stability and security as main attractions Rosan explained that investors assess Indonesia as having great strength in maintaining peace and stability. This includes political conditions, security, and an investment climate that is seen as maintained and continuously improving. According to him, stability is an important factor for investors because investment involves long-term commitments. He emphasised that Indonesia’s ability to prioritise such stability has been proven. “So, the interest in stability is something very important, and that is what Indonesia has proven—that we can maintain stability as a priority,” he stated. 2. Indonesia’s non-aligned position provides economic benefits Despite facing challenges from global geopolitics and geo-economics, Rosan views opportunities as still wide open for Indonesia. This is due to Indonesia’s position as a country accepted by all parties. He conveyed that an open foreign policy and the principle of non-alignment or non-partisanship keep Indonesia’s position strategic amid international dynamics. “Amid the increasing challenges in geopolitics and geo-economics lately, we see that this is also an opportunity that is always open because Indonesia is a country accepted by all nations,” Rosan explained. 3. Government presses to reduce uncertainty factors Rosan added that the maintained investment climate and domestic peace align with the government’s consistent efforts to enhance investment programmes. Currently, the government’s main focus is to minimise uncertainty factors at various levels. He believes these improvement steps will have a positive impact on investor confidence to invest in Indonesia. “What we are trying to reduce now is the factor of uncertainty. This uncertainty factor is what we are always trying to improve at every level, and as a result, this also has a positive impact,” he said.
