Government Buys Up UMKM Stock for Monas People's Bazaar
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has bought up stocks of goods from micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) from various trading centres to be distributed to residents at the people’s bazaar at the National Monument (Monas) in Jakarta, as an effort to stimulate the economy after Lebaran.
Minister of UMKM Maman Abdurrahman, after inspecting the People’s Bazaar titled Palace for the People at Monas in Central Jakarta on Saturday, said the event involved around 1,000 business actors, from street vendors to large market traders.
“This momentum is also an opportunity to stimulate the economy because we are involving approximately 1,000 micro enterprises, food and beverage traders,” Maman said.
He explained that the goods distributed to the public come from stocks of traders in several trading centres such as Tanah Abang and Pasar Senen, including products from regions outside Jakarta like Bandung.
According to Maman, this step allows business actors to deplete old stocks while rotating capital for production or purchasing new goods.
“Because they can deplete the stocks that were still there from before, and they can also rotate again, buy again with new stocks,” he said.
In this scheme, the government provides goods packages worth Rp200,000 per coupon, which the public can exchange for UMKM products such as clothing, shoes, bags, and other essentials.
In addition, the event also involves a large number of food and beverage traders to serve the needs of visitors during the programme.
Maman assessed that this strategy helps the public obtain Lebaran needs while providing a direct impact on the economic circulation of business actors.
“Well, the economic impact is like in Tanah Abang Market and also in Senen Market, there are those in Bandung, friends from shoe craft associations, and that ultimately gets moving,” he said.
He added that this approach is expected to keep the economic momentum going after the peak of Lebaran activities, while expanding the benefits of the programme for business actors and the public.
Previously, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya stated that President Prabowo Subianto wants as many residents as possible to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah in an atmosphere of togetherness through this people’s bazaar. The government has prepared 100,000 free shopping coupons worth Rp500,000 each and 300,000 free meals for the public.
