Minister for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers (P2MI), Mukhtarudin, attended a working meeting and the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers and BPJS Kesehatan at the BPJS Kesehatan Head Office in Cempaka Putih, Central Jakarta, on Monday, 3 August 2026. The signing of this memorandum of understanding marks a strategic step by the government in strengthening comprehensive protection for Prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers (CPMI) and Indonesian Migrant Workers, particularly by reinforcing access to the National Health Insurance (JKN) Programme as part of the protection ecosystem from before departure, during employment abroad, until after returning to the homeland. Also in attendance were Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono, President Director of BPJS Kesehatan Major General (Ret.) Dr. dr. Prihati Pujowaskito, and Deputy Chief of the Central Statistics Agency Dr. Sonny Harry Budiutomo, along with other officials. In his remarks, Minister Mukhtarudin expressed appreciation to BPJS Kesehatan for the initiative and commitment to building cross-sector collaboration to strengthen protection for Indonesian migrant workers. “The cooperation we are building today is a tangible manifestation of a shared commitment through policy synergy and social health insurance support for Indonesian citizens, which in this MoU focuses on strengthening protection for Prospective and Indonesian Migrant Workers,” said Minister Mukhtarudin. Mukhtarudin emphasised that the transformation of the Indonesian Migrant Worker Protection Agency (BP2MI) into a ministry is proof of the government’s commitment to delivering a stronger, comprehensive, and integrated protection system. According to Minister Mukhtarudin, the institutional transformation means the Ministry of P2MI not only carries out service functions but also strengthens policy formulation, cross-ministerial and institutional coordination, as well as supervision of the entire placement process for Indonesian migrant workers. “With this transformation, protection can be carried out thoroughly from before departure, during employment abroad, until returning to the homeland,” said Minister Mukhtarudin.
