Government Awaits Response from TikTok, Google Until Tomorrow to Comply with Tunas Regulation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkomdigi) Meutya Hafid stated that the government is awaiting responses from the digital platforms TikTok, Roblox, and Google until tomorrow, Tuesday (14/4), to fully comply with their obligations under the Tunas Regulation (PP Tunas).
Since the Tunas Regulation came into effect on 28 March 2026, these three platforms have not fully complied with the rules, with TikTok and Roblox categorised as partially cooperative, and Google, owner of YouTube, showing no intention to adhere to the regulation.
“We are still in the process of waiting, as the deadline is approximately until tomorrow for responses to the matters we have imposed,” said Meutya in a brief interview at the Ministry of Communication and Digital office in Jakarta on Monday.
Meutya stated that the introduction of the Tunas Regulation is one of Indonesia’s steps to safeguard sovereignty and ensure a safe digital space.
“We certainly hope very much that these major platforms can comply and respect our sovereignty in organising our digital space that is safe for children,” said Meutya.
Previously, as a form of enforcing the Tunas Regulation, the Ministry of Communication and Digital announced on Thursday (9/4) the imposition of sanctions on Google, owner of the YouTube platform, for not demonstrating commitment to fulfilling its obligations under PP Tunas.
In Ministerial Regulation of Komdigi number 9 of 2026 as the implementing regulation of PP Tunas, it is explained that several applicable sanctions for platforms that do not comply with the rules include administrative sanctions such as issuance of warning letters, temporary access suspension, up to access termination.
Following the procedures in that regulation, Google received a sanction in the form of a warning letter from the Director General of Digital Space Supervision of the Ministry of Komdigi.
As of Thursday at 17:50 WIB, there are three digital platform owners that have fully complied with the provisions of PP Tunas, namely Meta (Threads, Instagram, Facebook), X, and Bigo Live.
Meanwhile, other platforms such as YouTube, Roblox, and TikTok have not fully met the provisions of PP Tunas.
