The Minister of Law, Suprancman Andi Agtas, stated that the government has not yet discussed the Election Bill, which regulates the parliamentary threshold and presidential candidate requirements. Supratman noted that the government will submit the List of Problems (DIM) once the bill officially becomes a proposal from the House of Representatives (DPR).

“That has not been discussed yet. It is still rolling within the DPR. Once the DPR has finished, the government will certainly compile the DIM,” Supratman said at the Presidential Palace complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday (29/09/2026).

Supratman explained that the Election Bill is a DPR initiative, meaning the government’s current position is passive, waiting for the legislature. “Since it is a DPR initiative, how can we take a stance if the DPR’s proposal is not yet available?” he added.

According to Supratman, there is an established legislative custom regarding the Election Bill and the Political Parties Bill. He noted that the Election Bill is typically proposed by the DPR, whereas the Political Parties Bill is usually drafted by the government.

“So we are waiting. We are waiting because this is the custom. Historically, the convention has been that for laws regarding elections, they are drafted by the DPR. The Political Parties Law is drafted by the government. Currently, the Election Law is in progress. We are waiting because it has long been an agreement that the DPR proposes it,” he added.

The DPR is reportedly set to hold a meeting with the leadership of non-parliamentary political parties to discuss the Election Bill. This meeting has been rescheduled and is set to take place this coming Friday.

The Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Dasco, revealed that the audience was originally intended to be held today. However, the DPR decided to reschedule to accommodate more non-parliamentary political parties that had requested meetings.

“There is indeed a plan to meet with non-parliamentary parties, accompanied by the leadership of Commission II. However, it was originally intended for today,” Dasco told reporters at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta.
