Government Attracts Foreign Investment for Hydrogen Projects: How Great is the Potential?

The government is encouraging the use of hydrogen as a key component of the energy transition and the utilisation of domestic resources. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) is inviting the private sector to participate in the development of hydrogen projects, including the pursuit of foreign investment.

The Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Yuliot Tanjung, stated that several companies from the United States (US) have expressed interest in establishing partnerships to develop hydrogen projects in Indonesia. This exploration of cooperation was part of the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial Meeting, which took place in Houston, Texas, USA, from 14–16 September 2026.
