Government Assures No Fatalities in Hajj Pilgrims' Accident in Madinah

The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has assured that the traffic accident experienced by a group of Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in Jabal Magnet, Madinah, Saudi Arabia, on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, has been handled appropriately.

Director of WNI Protection, Heni Hamidah, confirmed that there were no fatalities in the incident involving the Indonesian Hajj Group (JHI) from Cluster SUB-2 and Cluster JKS-1 during their return journey from a pilgrimage and city tour activity in Jabal Magnet.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, through the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah, is handling the traffic accident case experienced by the Indonesian Hajj Group (JHI) on 28 April 2026 in Saudi Arabia,” Heni stated in an official release on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

She explained that there were 10 injured victims. Seven of them were pilgrims from Cluster JKS-1 originating from West Java. They sustained minor injuries and have received treatment from the medical team and returned to the Hotel Andalus Golden.

Meanwhile, the other three victims were from Cluster SUB-2 originating from Probolinggo Regency, East Java. According to Heni, after receiving medical treatment, two from Cluster SUB-2 have been allowed to return to the hotel, while one 60-year-old pilgrim is still undergoing medical observation at Al-Hayyat Quba Hospital.

The government assures that the injured pilgrims in this accident have been well treated and will continue to receive accompaniment.

“Currently, the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah continues to monitor the condition of the victims and coordinate with local authorities, travel organisers, and related parties to ensure that all pilgrims receive the necessary treatment and accompaniment,” Heni said.

The Head of the Hajj Organising Officers (PPIH) in Surabaya, Asadul Anam, stated that the preliminary suspicion is that the accident occurred because the bus driver could not control the vehicle’s speed when passing another vehicle that suddenly appeared from the side of the road. It was reported that the front of the bus was dented and severely damaged.

Jabal Magnet is an area with an uphill road contour located about 60 kilometres from Madinah City and is one of the religious tourism destinations for pilgrims visiting the region.
