Government assures handling and support for train accident victims
The government is committed to fully handling the train accident incident involving the Commuter Line and long-distance train at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday night (27/4), including support for the victims’ families. “The government assures that it will not wash its hands of this handling, both in terms of hospital treatment and support through insurance mechanisms,” said Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi, during a press conference at Bekasi Timur Station, as followed online in Jakarta on Wednesday. The government, together with all stakeholders, ensures that victim handling is a priority, and continues to strive to provide the necessary support for the victims and affected families. “We extend our condolences to all the victims’ families,” he stated. Regarding victim handling, the Transport Minister explained that the data collection and identification process has been carried out from the start by PT Jasa Raharja in accordance with applicable provisions. Subsequently, the distribution of compensation will be carried out following the established mechanisms. “From the first day, Jasa Raharja has been involved in the victim identification and data collection process. For the compensation mechanism, it will be carried out in accordance with applicable provisions,” the Transport Minister clarified. After the inspection, Transport Minister Dudy boarded the electric rail train (KRL) from Bekasi Timur Station to Cikarang Station, as part of the trial reopening of that route, which had previously been affected by the accident incident. Upon arriving at Cikarang Station, the Transport Minister continued to offer condolences at the home of one of the deceased victims, Nurlaela. On that occasion, the Transport Minister conveyed deep condolences over the incident and reaffirmed that the government is present in the victim handling process. At the same location, PT KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin also expressed condolences to the victims’ families. KAI is also providing compensation and educational support for the victims’ families. “We convey our deepest condolences. As a form of care, we are also providing compensation and scholarships to the child of one of the victims,” said Bobby.
