Government Appreciates Polri's Swift Action in Uncovering Suspect in Acid Attack on Andrie Yunus

The Head of the Indonesian State Communication Agency (Bakom) RI, Angga Raka Prabowo, has appreciated the swift actions of Polri in successfully identifying the suspected perpetrator of the acid attack on KontraS activist Andrie Yunus. Angga stated that this step demonstrates the seriousness of law enforcement proceedings. “We appreciate the police’s efforts in handling this case, which quickly succeeded in identifying the perpetrator. The government expresses deep concern over this incident and hopes that Mr Andrie Yunus can recover soon,” Angga said in his statement on Wednesday (18/3/2026). This development is reinforced by actions from the TNI Military Police Centre (Puspom), which has secured four individuals suspected to be the perpetrators. Currently, the suspects are undergoing further examination for deeper investigation leading to the prosecution stage. According to Angga, the swift and professional response of law enforcement officials is a crucial element in maintaining public trust amid sensitive situations. “We note the swift and professional steps taken by the apparatus, both Polri and Puspom TNI, as part of the law enforcement process that is proceeding openly and evidence-based,” he said. The government emphasises that any acts of violence against citizens cannot be tolerated, regardless of the perpetrator’s background. The government is committed to ensuring that the legal process proceeds firmly, transparently, and accountably in accordance with applicable laws and regulations. “Whoever the perpetrator is must be processed according to the applicable law,” Angga stressed. The government also clarifies that any alleged involvement of individuals in this incident does not reflect the institution as a whole. The government respects the TNI’s open handling of the alleged involvement of its members. This reflects the state institution’s commitment to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and integrity before the public.
