Jakarta – The government has appointed Hendarsam Marantoko as the new Director General (DG) of Immigration based on Presidential Decree Number 187/TPA of 2025.

The appointment of Hendarsam Marantoko as the new DG of Immigration was confirmed by Deputy Minister of Immigration and Repatriation (Kemenimipas) Silmy Karim.

“Yes, that’s correct,” said Silmy when reached for comment in Jakarta on Friday.

Silmy stated that DG of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko will officially assume his duties after the handover ceremony is conducted. In the interim, the acting officer before the inauguration remains responsible for the position.

“(Assumes office) pending the handover ceremony,” said Silmy.

Meanwhile, Head of the Centre for Data, Information and Public Communication of the Ministry of Immigration M Akbar Hadi Prabowo stated that the handover ceremony for the DG of Immigration and the inauguration process will be conducted in April 2026.

“The handover ceremony is scheduled for early April,” he said.

Hendarsam Marantoko has a background as an advocate and politician, born in Tanjung Karang on 22 December 1977. He was appointed through Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 187/TPA of 2025, signed by President Prabowo Subianto.

The owner of a law firm bearing his name, Hendarsam Marantoko and Partners (HMP), completed his undergraduate law degree at the University of Lampung in 2002 and pursued a master’s degree in law at Gadjah Mada University in 2020.

Previously, on Tuesday 3 March, the Ministry of Immigration conducted an open selection process for the position of DG of Immigration in its second wave, along with an open selection for the Head of the Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDM), with registration beginning on 9–27 March 2026 and followed by administrative selection on 30 March–2 April 2026.

On Tuesday 10 March, the Ministry of Immigration announced the closure of the open selection for DG of Immigration following the presidential appointment decision.

“The appointment of the Director General of Immigration has been issued through Presidential Decree,” said Akbar.

With the appointment of the DG of Immigration confirmed through this presidential decree, the need to fill this position has been met through the senior executive appointment mechanism, in accordance with applicable regulations.
