Government Announces THR 2026; West Java Opens THR Complaints Desk.
The government has officially announced its policy on the provision of Tunjangan Hari Raya (THR) and Bonus Hari Raya (BHR) for Eid al-Fitr 2026 (1447 H). The announcement comes as millions of workers prepare for the holiday, which is expected to fall in the third week of March 2026.
Coordinating Economic Affairs Minister Airlangga Hartarto said the government has allocated Rp55 trillion for THR for civil servants. This amount is 10% higher than last year’s Rp49 trillion.
‘All components are paid 100% in full, including basic salary, family allowance, food allowance, and job/ performance allowances in accordance with applicable regulations. THR is different from the 13th salary; the 13th salary is usually paid in June,’ Airlangga said.
Under the scheme, the timeline for THR 2026 disbursement has been set, though details were not listed in the text.
Manpower Minister Yassierli reiterated that THR for private sector workers must be paid in full and must not be paid in instalments. ‘Religious THR is an obligation that employers must carry out. It must be settled in full; there is no room to negotiate instalments,’ he stated in Circular Letter No. M/3/HK.04.00/III/2026.
Following central directives, West Java Province via Disnakertrans Jabar has opened a THR Consultation and Complaint Post. Head of Disnakertrans Jabar, I Gusti Agung Kim Fajar Wiyati Oka, said the post is intended to safeguard workers’ rights. Last year, Disnakertrans Jabar received 344 complaints, dominated by companies in the tourism sector. This year, oversight will be tightened to ensure employer compliance. ‘The companies that were complained about mostly operate in the tourism sector. The reason is economic pressures that make THR payments difficult,’ Oka said.
The tradition of giving extra money ahead of Eid has a long history since 1951. Initially, Prime Minister Soekiman Wirjosandjojo provided ‘uang persekot’ (advance loan) to Pamong Pradja to improve welfare. The policy was opposed by workers for being discriminatory. After years of struggle, authorities introduced a regulation requiring private-sector companies to provide ‘Hadiah Lebaran’ in 1961. The term later officially became Tunjangan Hari Raya (THR) in 1994 under then-Minister of Labour Abdul Latief. THR has since evolved from a loan to a normative right protected by law, serving as an important instrument to maintain purchasing power during holidays. (MTVN/Ant/I-1)
