Government Announces No Increase in Electricity Tariffs for Q3 2026
The government, through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), has announced that electricity tariffs for 13 non-subsidised customer groups will not increase during the third quarter (July-September) of 2026. Minister Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed the decision in Jakarta on Tuesday (30/6/2026), stating the policy is intended to maintain public purchasing power, support industrial competitiveness, and provide certainty for business actors.
Under Ministerial Regulation No. 7 of 2024 concerning Electricity Tariffs Provided by PT PLN (Persero), tariff adjustments for non-subsidised customers are conducted quarterly based on changes in realised macroeconomic parameters, including the exchange rate, Indonesian Crude Price (ICP), inflation, and the Reference Coal Price (HBA). For the third quarter of 2026, the parameters referenced realisations from February to April 2026: an exchange rate of Rp16,959.32 per US dollar, ICP of USD96.12 per barrel, inflation at 0.21 percent, and an HBA of USD70 per tonne under the domestic market obligation policy. According to the tariff adjustment formula, the accumulated changes in these parameters should have resulted in a tariff increase.
“To maintain public purchasing power and support national economic stability, the government has decided that electricity tariffs for the third quarter of 2026 will remain unchanged,” Bahlil stated. He added that tariffs for 24 subsidised customer groups, including social customers, low-income households, small businesses, small industries, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), will also remain unchanged and continue to receive electricity subsidies. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources urged the public to use electricity wisely and efficiently as part of a collective effort to support national energy resilience and independence. PT PLN (Persero) has also been instructed to maintain supply reliability, improve customer service quality, and optimise operational efficiency.
