The Prabowo Subianto administration is beginning to realise its target of opening large-scale employment opportunities. The first initiative comes from the Ministry of Industry, where 1,236 industrial companies have completed development phases in 2025 and are ready to commence production for the first time in 2026.

This new production capacity represents concrete evidence that manufacturing investment is not merely growing but is being realised in the real economic sector. Industrial investment in 2026 is expected to absorb 218,000 new workers. These new industries represent relocation from overseas, expansion, or fresh investment. These industries are expected to generate GDP and increase the existing IPNM contribution.

“The influx of investment into the industrial sector cannot be assessed by a single sentiment indicator. The fact that over a thousand industrial companies are ready to operate in 2026 shows that manufacturing investment is running and sustainable,” said the Ministry of Industry’s spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief in a statement in Jakarta on Tuesday (17 February 2026).

Beyond the Ministry of Industry, data from the Government Communications Agency (Bakom) indicates that Danantara has also prepared a total of 20 downstream processing projects valued at US$26 billion. The potential for job creation reaches 600,000. After six projects are underway, fourteen other projects are scheduled to follow in 2026.

From minerals to strategic industries, from energy to food production, all these investments are directed at capturing added value domestically and strengthening the foundation of the national economy.

Meanwhile, six projects have already held groundbreaking ceremonies:

  • Bauxite downstream processing in Mempawah, West Kalimantan

  • Alumina to aluminium downstream processing in Mempawah, West Kalimantan

  • Biorefinery (bioaviation fuel) in Cilacap, Central Java
