The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) of the Republic of Indonesia has officially declared that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah will fall on Monday, 18 May 2026. Consequently, Eid al-Adha, or 10 Zulhijah 1447 H, will be celebrated on Wednesday, 27 May 2026.

Minister of Religious Affairs Nasaruddin Umar announced the decision after presiding over the Sidang Isbat for the beginning of Zulhijah 1447 H in Jakarta on Sunday (17/5). The Minister explained that the agreement was reached based on astronomical calculations (hisab) and moon-sighting reports (rukyatul hilal) from various locations across Indonesia.

“Based on the results of hisab and hilal reports, it has been agreed that 1 Zulhijah 1447 Hijriah falls on Monday, 18 May 2026; thus, Eid al-Adha will fall on Wednesday, 27 May 2026,” stated Minister Nasaruddin Umar.

The Sidang Isbat decision was based on hilal monitoring conducted at 88 locations throughout Indonesia. According to field reports, the position of the hilal met the new criteria established by the Ministers of Religious Affairs of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore (MABIMS). These criteria require a minimum hilal height of 3 degrees with a minimum elongation angle of 6.4 degrees. This astronomical data was synchronised with mathematical hisab methods compiled by the Kemenag RI Rukyat Team.

The Sidang Isbat was attended by scholars, representatives of Islamic mass organisations, experts in falak (astronomy), and community leaders to ensure the decision was made through deliberation. The government’s determination for Eid al-Adha 2026 aligns with the Central Leadership (PP) of Muhammadiyah. Previously, Muhammadiyah, using the Single Global Hijri Calendar (KHGT) method, had also determined that 1 Zulhijah 1447 H begins on Monday, 18 May 2026.

Muhammadiyah utilises the Global Calendar Parameter (PKG), which emphasises the principle of global hilal visibility without being dependent on national borders. With this identical result, Muslims in Indonesia are confirmed to celebrate Eid al-Adha and perform the ritual sacrifice of animals on the same day.

The Minister added that maintaining harmony is a shared responsibility between the government and religious scholars when addressing religious matters. For reference, the government previously determined that Eid al-Fitri 1 Syawal 1447 Hijriah would fall on Saturday, 21 March 2026.
