Government and private sector build garbage compactor
JAKARTA (JP): The City Sanitation Office is planning to enter
into a 25-year build-operation-and-transfer (BOT) agreement with
PT Intan Maru Mahkota (IMM) to build a garbage compactor.
The Surabaya-based recycling company converts organic waste
into compost, an official said yesterday.
"We have provided 10 hectares of land in Duri Kosambi, West
Jakarta, as the site for the station," Moch. Subasir, the head of
the office told reporters.
Subasir revealed the plan after attending the signing of
agreements between the city administration and the directorate
general of taxation and the state-owned post and money transfer
company (Perum Pos dan Giro) at the City Hall yesterday.
The planned transfer station will be very useful for
separating garbage dumped in the Duri Kosambi area and condense
it before transferring it to the Bantar Gebang landfill in
Bekasi, Subasir said.
The station will have a capacity to accommodate 2,000 cubic
meters of garbage every day, Subasir said.
Subasir said in the future he would build transfer station in
every subdistrict of the city to reduce the amount of garbage
scattered or spilled while being transported to the landfill
site.
He said about 4,000 cubic meters of garbage are spilled every
day.
According to Subasir, representatives of PT IMM and the
sanitation office are scheduled to meet with the governor today
to request his approval over the planned agreement.
When asked about his office's capacity to manage garbage,
Subasir said that at present the sanitation office is able to
dispose about 19,900 cubic meters, or 83 percent, of the 24,000
cubic meters of garbage the city produces in a day.
Currently, the office has 804 garbage trucks, 707 of which are
ready for operation. (06)
