REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – National fish consumption continues to show an upward trend, but it is still considered in need of promotion to strengthen public nutritional quality. Synergy between the government and industry players is key to expanding campaigns for high-quality protein consumption.

The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) records that Indonesians’ fish consumption reaches more than 26.04 kilograms per capita per year in 2025. This figure reflects a positive trend but still has room for improvement to support food security and national nutritional fulfilment.

In these efforts, collaboration between the government and businesses is being expanded through various approaches. One of them is the Fish for Fit activity, which combines fish consumption education with community-based sports activities.

President Director of Regal Springs Indonesia, Rudolf Hoeffelman, stated that industry involvement is part of efforts to strengthen the fish consumption campaign. “Through collaboration with the government and approaches closer to the community, we see opportunities to drive sustainable increases in fish consumption,” said Rudolf on Saturday (18/4/2026).

He added that lifestyle-based approaches are effective in reaching the public. “Activities with sports communities like this hybrid race competition serve as a means to encourage the public to adopt healthy lifestyles through nutritious food consumption, especially fish, balanced with regular exercise,” he continued.

From a nutritional perspective, fish is regarded as a high-quality protein source. In 100 grams of serving, tilapia fish contains around 20 grams of protein that plays a role in antibody formation, muscle recovery, and supporting improved body immunity. This content is equivalent to about 30 to 35 percent of an adult’s daily protein needs.

Director of Marketing at the Directorate General of Competitiveness Enhancement of Marine and Fisheries Products (PDSPKP) KKP, Erwin Dwiyana, assessed that cross-sector collaboration is an important factor in expanding campaign reach. “We appreciate Regal Springs Indonesia’s support in this event. This collaboration is expected to strengthen the fish consumption campaign, serving as an effective promotional tool while expanding market access, especially in the premium segment,” Erwin stated.

The Fish for Fit activity is packaged in the form of a hybrid race-based fitness competition that combines strength, endurance, and teamwork. In addition to the competition, the event also features nutritional education and promotion of fishery products targeting urban communities.
