Government allocates Rp8 trillion to accelerate housing development
Minister of Home Affairs Muhammad Tito Karnavian stated that the government has allocated a budget of around Rp8 trillion to support the acceleration of development and the rehabilitation of uninhabitable homes across Indonesia. The house renovation programme is a mandate from President Prabowo Subianto, executed by the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas with support from the state budget and non-state budget funding sources. “The number of houses to be renovated across all regions in Indonesia will increase significantly, from approximately 45,000 units in 2025 to around 400,000 units in 2026,” he said in Jayapura on Monday. He explained that the determination of beneficiary areas is based on the percentage of substandard housing and the number of people who do not yet own a home. “According to government data, this percentage remains relatively high in the Papua region, making it a priority,” he stated. “The Self-Help Housing Stimulant Assistance (BSPS) programme will target 22,379 housing units across the entire Papua region. This is a very significant increase.” The housing rehabilitation implementation will begin simultaneously on 24 June 2026 and is targeted for completion by August 2026. Jayapura Mayor Abisai Rollo said that Jayapura City has received an allocation of 499 units for the house renovation programme from the Ministry of Housing and Settlement Areas. He noted that Mosso Village was chosen as the symbolic launch location because it is situated in a border area, while the renovation work will continue in other parts of Jayapura City and throughout Papua. “In Mosso Village, there are 36 housing units to be renovated. We also witnessed firsthand the open tender process for building material suppliers, so the provider offering the best price will be appointed to procure the materials,” he said. He added that assistance from the central government is crucial for the Jayapura City Government in reducing the burden on the regional budget for providing adequate housing for the community.
