Government Allocates Rp5.9 Trillion for National Internship and Vocational Training Programmes

Manpower Minister Yassierli announced that the government has allocated an additional Rp5.9 trillion to strengthen the National Internship Programme (MagangHub) 2026 and vocational training, aiming to improve the competence and competitiveness of Indonesian workers. “The national internship programme received an additional Rp4.2 trillion, and vocational training received an additional Rp1.7 trillion, just last month,” he said after opening the AI Career Boost Day 2026 job fair in Jakarta on Tuesday (28/7/2026).

Yassierli explained that the government is reinforcing vocational training programmes as part of a strategy to build superior human resources by enhancing practical skills that meet the needs of the workforce and industry. The government is targeting 300,000 participants for the vocational training supported by the additional Rp1.7 trillion budget. The programme covers conventional skills such as welding, automotive repair, air conditioning repair, and electronics. In addition to these conventional skills, the Manpower Ministry is also developing technology-based training, including smart operations, smart farming, and smart building. Training durations are tailored to the required competencies, ranging from one to two months, while welding training can last up to six months.

Yassierli noted that graduates of the ministry’s welding training centres have high job prospects and are already in demand by foreign companies, with monthly salaries reaching tens of millions of rupiah for welder operator positions. The vocational training programme is implemented through 42 training centres owned by the Manpower Ministry, involving local government training centres to broaden service coverage and ensure that competency improvement opportunities are accessible to people in various regions. “Hopefully, this proves that the government, the Manpower Ministry, and President Prabowo Subianto are committed to building superior human resources. Try asking other countries if they have a vocational training programme for 300,000 people,” Yassierli said. He added that strengthening human resource competence is a key factor in facing global economic challenges, and the government continues to expand access to vocational training to create a more competent, productive, and competitive Indonesian workforce.

Meanwhile, for the second batch of the 2026 National Internship Programme, the Manpower Ministry has prepared a quota of 150,000 participants. The implementation is divided into three stages, each with a quota of 50,000 participants. As of the close of the first stage registration on 28 July, 300,000 people had applied for the 50,000 available positions. Following the registration closure, the selection process will run until 5 August 2026. The plenary meeting and participant determination will take place on 6 August 2026, with results announced on 7 August 2026. The internship programme will commence on 10 August 2026, with the kick-off for the first stage of the 2026 National Internship scheduled for 11 August 2026. During the six-month programme, participants will receive a stipend based on the district or city minimum wage at the partner organisation’s location. Participants will also receive BPJS Ketenagakerjaan protection, including Work Accident Insurance (JKK) and Death Insurance (JKM).
