Government allocates Rp134.2 trillion for Free Nutritious Meal programme as of August 2026
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara stated that the budget realisation for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme reached Rp134.2 trillion as of 31 August 2026.
“For the Free Nutritious Meal programme, Rp134.2 trillion has been utilised during the 8-month implementation of the 2026 State Budget (APBN),” Suahasil said during the APBN KiTa September 2026 press conference at the Ministry of Finance Office in Jakarta on Friday.
As of August 2026, the number of MBG beneficiaries reached 57 million people through 27,485 Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG).
Suahasil stated that the Ministry of Finance supports the ongoing reforms within the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). The Ministry of Finance continues to coordinate closely with the BGN.
The Ministry of Finance noted several recent BGN reform policies, such as the requirement for SPPGs to possess a Hygiene Sanitation Layup Certificate (SLHS) to enhance food safety for the MBG programme; this includes the closure of SPPGs lacking SLHS while ensuring services for beneficiaries remain guaranteed.
Furthermore, there is a regional restructuring policy for 3T areas (underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost), where SPPGs in 3T regions with high stunting rates are prioritised for students (santri) and the ‘3B’ group, namely toddlers, pregnant women, and breastfeeding mothers.
Another reform policy highlighted by the Ministry of Finance is the reallocation of beneficiaries from SPPGs to the BGN, ensuring more optimal distribution of the MBG programme.
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has removed 1,653 educational units from the list of MBG programme recipients, redirecting them to more needy groups, including those in frontier, outermost, and underdeveloped (3T) regions.
Head of the BGN, Sudaryono, explained that all the removed educational units consisted of international schools and high-end private schools.
The Head of the BGN stated that this step is an effort to refocus the programme to ensure the MBG programme is increasingly well-targeted.
