Government Allocates Rp1.54 Trillion for Holiday Transport Ticket Discounts

The government has allocated a budget of Rp1.54 trillion for a transport ticket discount programme during the school holiday and Christmas and New Year (Nataru) periods to support public mobility. Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi detailed that during the school holiday period, the government will provide a 30 percent discount on train tickets from 20 June to 5 July 2026, a 30 percent discount on base ship fares from 20 June to 15 August 2026, and a waiver of port service fees for ASDP from 20 June to 5 July 2026. “The total budget allocation is Rp190.5 billion, targeting 3 million passengers,” Dudy said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday. The government is also providing a 100 percent Value Added Tax (PPN) borne by the government (DTP) incentive for domestic economy class flight tickets. This programme has a budget allocation of Rp472.7 billion and aims to reach 2.3 million passengers. For the Nataru period, the government will again offer a 30 percent discount on train tickets from 22 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, a 30 percent discount on base ship fares from 17 December 2026 to 10 January 2027, and a waiver of ASDP port service fees from 22 December 2026 to 10 January 2027. “The total allocation is Rp161.4 billion, targeting 2.8 million passengers,” he stated. The 100 percent PPN DTP incentive will also be reapplied for domestic economy class flight tickets with a budget of Rp722 billion, targeting 3.7 million passengers during the Nataru period. With these various programmes, the total budget prepared by the government for transport incentives and discounts during these two major periods amounts to Rp1.54 trillion.
