Government Aims to Boost Green Energy Utilisation, Focusing on Two Sources
The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has prepared a number of strategies to increase the utilisation of new and renewable energy (EBT). Two main programmes are the focus: expanding the mandatory implementation of biodiesel and accelerating the construction of Solar Power Plants (PLTS) with a capacity of 100 gigawatts (GW).
Director General of New, Renewable Energy, and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) at the Ministry of ESDM, Eniya Listiani Dewi, stated that the national EBT mix has currently reached 18.3%, surpassing the Strategic Plan (Renstra) target range of 17-21%.
According to her, this achievement comes from both the electricity and non-electricity sectors. The largest contributor to the EBT mix currently remains Fatty Acid Methyl Ester (FAME) or biodiesel, which accounts for 5.38% of the national energy mix.
“In that sector, the highest contributor to the mix is actually FAME. This FAME contributes 5.38% to the energy mix. This is followed in the electricity sector by hydropower, and then biomass power,” Eniya said at the CNBC Indonesia Energy Forum in Jakarta, cited on Tuesday (30/6/2026).
Despite this achievement, Eniya revealed that the government is striving to increase the share of green energy to strengthen national energy security. One of the steps being taken is accelerating the development of PLTS with a capacity of up to 100 GW.
In addition, the government is continuing the implementation of the biodiesel mandate according to the stages regulated in the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Regulation Number 4 of 2025.
On the other hand, the electrification programme is also being pushed through the use of electric stoves as a substitute for LPG and the acceleration of the conversion of oil-fuelled vehicles to electric vehicles.
“So the government’s current strategy that we can see is, of course, biodiesel. This has become an issue that is currently rolling. Then another issue is the 100 gigawatt Solar Power Plant. So this is also being boosted to increase the energy mix,” she said.
