Government Affirms No WFH for Schools, Teaching and Learning Continues Face-to-Face
JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for the Economy Airlangga Hartarto has emphasised that the education sector will continue to operate normally and will not be affected by the work-from-home (WFH) policy for civil servants (ASN).
Airlangga stated that the education sector will maintain face-to-face teaching and learning activities, or offline, without implementing online distance learning (PJJ).
“Face-to-face teaching and learning will continue normally offline across all levels of primary to secondary education, five days a week,” said Airlangga during an online press conference on Tuesday (31/3/2026).
“There are no restrictions on sports events related to achievements or other extracurricular activities,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, for higher education institutions, particularly semester four and above, the lecture policy will adjust to the circular from the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Kemendikti Saintek).
“For higher education, semesters 4 and above will follow the Kemendikti Saintek circular,” Airlangga said.
Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian issued Circular Number 800.1.5/3349/SJ on Transforming Civil Servant Work Culture in Regional Government Environments.
The circular takes effect from today, 1 April 2026, and will be periodically evaluated.
In addition to the education sector, echelon I and II officials in regions, district heads, village heads, and public service sectors are exempted from the WFH policy.
At the provincial level, high-ranking madya and pratama leadership officials are also required to work from the office despite the WFH policy for ASN.
Meanwhile, at the district/city level, exemptions from WFH apply to high-ranking pratama leadership officials, administrators or echelon III, district heads, sub-district heads, and village heads.
