Government Affirms No Plans to Revert KPK Law to Previous Version
State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi has responded to a statement by Indonesia’s seventh President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who said he agreed that the KPK Law — revised during his presidency — should be reverted to its previous version. Prasetyo said there had been no discussion with President Prabowo Subianto about reverting the KPK Law.
“There hasn’t been any. We haven’t discussed it,” Prasetyo said after a meeting with House of Representatives (DPR) leaders at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Wednesday (18 February 2026).
Prasetyo said there was no discussion about the KPK Law during Prabowo’s meeting with former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad. He emphasised that the government had no desire to discuss the matter.
“There was nothing about that when meeting Abraham. There was absolutely no discussion about it whatsoever,” he said.
“There is none. No desire to discuss it,” he added.
Furthermore, he said the government had no plans to revise the current KPK Law. “There are no revision plans,” Prasetyo said.
When asked about Jokowi’s agreement to revert the KPK Law, Prasetyo said it had nothing to do with Jokowi. He stressed that the current government has no plans to restore the previous version of the KPK Law.
“What does this have to do with Pak Jokowi? Nothing. There’s nothing,” he said.
Deputy Speaker of the DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurizal also responded to Jokowi’s statement. He noted that no law can proceed without a presidential letter.
“The public is smart enough now to know that no legislation can move forward without a letter from the president,” Cucun said.
Jokowi’s Statement
Previously, former President Jokowi expressed agreement with a proposal by former KPK Chairman Abraham Samad to revert the KPK Law to its earlier version. Jokowi pointed out that the revised version was initiated by the DPR.
“Yes, I agree, it would be good to revert the KPK Law to the old version, because the revision was initiated by the DPR. Don’t get it wrong — it was the DPR’s initiative,” Jokowi said, as reported by detikJateng on Friday (13 February).
Jokowi acknowledged that the KPK Law was revised during his presidency at the DPR’s initiative. However, he emphasised that he did not sign the revised legislation.
“Yes, indeed the KPK Law was revised. At that time it was revised at the DPR’s initiative, but I did not sign it,” he said.
