President Prabowo Subianto has instructed the acceleration of redevelopment for settlements along railway tracks. This instruction was given during an inspection of the area around Pasar Senen Station on Thursday (26/3).

The President has asked PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) to conduct an inventory of residents’ settlements along the railway lines, starting from the Pasar Senen area and expanding to other similar regions.

KAI President Director Bobby Rasyidin stated that his company is following up on the instruction through data collection on the areas and residents, as well as securing railway zones.

“KAI supports the President’s instruction through the inventory of residents’ settlements around the tracks and area security. We are coordinating with the Ministry of Public Works for short-term solutions, as well as with other ministries and parties for long-term steps,” said Bobby in his statement on Friday (27/3/2026).

According to him, in the initial stage, KAI will conduct checks and studies in the Pasar Senen area before expanding to other points along the railway lines.

The redevelopment of trackside areas, Bobby continued, is aimed at providing decent housing while creating a safer and more orderly environment. This effort is also expected to improve community living standards by strengthening access to city centres and economic opportunities.

“We view this redevelopment as an important part of providing a more decent environment for the community while strengthening railway travel safety,” he said.

KAI records that the total railway land managed reaches more than 327 million square metres. Specifically in the Jabodetabek region, there is potential for developing around 131,000 housing units in areas around transport hubs.

KAI emphasises that it will implement three main steps in following up on the President’s directive, namely inventorying residents’ settlements, securing railway areas, and collaborating with the Ministry of Public Works and other related parties to provide decent housing solutions.
