Government accelerates post-disaster recovery ahead of Eid al-Fitr
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The government has affirmed the importance of accelerating post-natural disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Sumatra, whilst prioritising targeting accuracy, accountability, and legal and social certainty as Eid al-Fitr approaches.
“We are taking this opportunity to conduct a rapid review of the problems being faced and what the solutions should look like,” said Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK) Pratikno during a meeting of the Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in Jakarta on Monday.
He stressed that all stakeholders must move in a coordinated manner, based on valid data and orderly administration to avoid creating problems in the future.
“We are all moving quickly, on target, accountably, and without creating legal or social problems down the line. Therefore, the issue of valid and consistent data collection, as well as fulfilling administrative requirements to prevent problems, is essential,” he said.
“Everyone is working to meet the aspirations of the public and finding a middle ground amidst the existing challenges — whatever is best for the community,” he added.
During the meeting, the acceleration of housing construction was identified as one of the top priorities, particularly ahead of Eid al-Fitr, so that affected communities can occupy more suitable and safer dwellings.
“Housing construction must be accelerated before Lebaran,” said Pratikno.
Through this task force, the central government, together with regional governments and relevant ministries and agencies, continues to strengthen coordination, data synchronisation, and the acceleration of rehabilitation and reconstruction programme implementation, so that social and economic recovery in the three affected provinces can proceed optimally.
