The government is calling on the people of Papua, particularly the younger generation, to work together to maintain a safe and conducive situation amidst the acceleration of regional development. The public is also urged not to be easily influenced by provocations that could disrupt development activities and to express aspirations through available dialogue spaces and mechanisms.

This message accompanies the government’s commitment to accelerating development in Papua through the strengthening of basic infrastructure, connectivity, education, and health. The government considers a safe social condition to be a vital factor in ensuring that various programmes can run sustainably and that their benefits are felt by the community.

The Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), stated that development in Papua must be carried out comprehensively, taking into account the basic needs of the people.

“In addition to the roads I mentioned earlier, clean water, decent housing, sanitation, drainage, electricity, and so on. It is hoped that once these conditions are improved, the quality of life for the community will increase,” said ARL, as quoted on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.

According to AHY, infrastructure development must go hand in hand with improving the quality of human resources. Therefore, the education and health sectors are essential parts of the Papua development agenda, including through the ‘Sekolah Rakyat’ (People’s School) programme, school revitalisation, and the strengthening of community health centre (puskesmas) and hospital facilities.

The government is also encouraging the strengthening of inter-regional connectivity to open access to areas that have previously faced transportation limitations. Improved connectivity is expected to support community mobility and the distribution of basic necessities, while simultaneously creating new economic opportunities.

AHY emphasised that accelerating development requires synergy between the central and regional governments, including in resolving spatial planning and land status issues.

“The central and regional governments are one and the same team. We are not facing off against each other, nor are we looking for who is right or who is wrong,” he asserted.

In addition to pursuing economic growth and increased welfare, the government ensures that development continues to respect the environmental sustainability of Papua.

Alongside the acceleration of development, the government invites all elements of society to maintain the security and stability of the region. The expression of aspirations, including those related to development policies, is expected to be conducted through dialogue spaces and available mechanisms so that they can be discussed constructively.
