Government Accelerates Pantura Coastal Highway Repairs to Ensure Pothole-Free Conditions Before Lebaran H-10
JAKARTA – The Indonesian government, through the Ministry of Public Works, is accelerating repairs to major infrastructure ahead of the 2026 Lebaran homecoming period. The primary focus is on refurbishing the Pantura coastal highway and Trans-Java Toll Road, with the target of ensuring all major road sections are pothole-free by ten days before Lebaran (H-10).
High vehicle traffic loads, combined with weather factors, make routine maintenance crucial to prevent disruptions during the peak homecoming period. In the western region, the Large-Scale National Road Implementation Agency (BBPJN) of DKI–West Java is mobilising heavy machinery to seal thousands of damage points.
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo revealed that road damage data has been drastically reduced over recent weeks. The government is implementing two repair schemes. For emergency treatment, rapid patching methods are employed to ensure short-term traffic continuity. However, for critical points with structural damage, the Public Works Ministry is applying overlay layers and upgrading construction to rigid pavement (concrete).
“The Pemalang–Pekalongan section is the heart of the Pantura,” said Dody. “By the end of February, physical progress has reached 78.89 per cent. This far exceeds the initial planned target of only 37.66 per cent.”
Beyond arterial routes, PT Jasamarga Transjawa Tol is also tightening maintenance on the Jakarta–Cikampek toll segment. Work is focused on points experiencing the heaviest traffic loads, including off-ramp areas. Major reconstruction work is underway at the Dry Port Off Ramp Lane 2, scheduled for completion on 2 March.
“This acceleration of improvements demonstrates our commitment to providing reliable service,” Dody concluded. “We do not want any structural obstacles when vehicle loads reach their peak during the holiday period.”
With acceleration across various fronts, the government is optimistic that the 2026 Lebaran homecoming will be significantly safer and more comfortable compared to previous years.
