Government Accelerates Energy Self-Sufficiency to Support 2026-2029 National Priority Work Programme

Deputy Finance Minister Juda Agung explained that the government aims to accelerate energy self-sufficiency to support the 2026 National Priority Work Programme (PKPN). President Prabowo Subianto has issued specific directives on this energy self-sufficiency initiative. “There are eight clusters and 60 programmes. The programmes are clear: food security, energy resilience, education, health, downstreaming up to economic equity in rural areas,” Juda clarified, quoted from Kontan on Thursday (7/5/2026). Meanwhile, Danantara is for investments with long-term returns. This diversification is expected to accelerate the 2026 PKPN period. However, for strategic projects requiring large financing, they will be funded by the state budget and Danantara, then involving Bank Indonesia to maintain liquidity. “Bank Indonesia will certainly provide sufficient liquidity for banking and also low capital costs in the private sector,” he explained. “In my view, the crisis actually accelerates our transformation plans. In the end, we are forced to accelerate. We already understand the problems; for a long time, we have wanted food self-sufficiency and energy self-sufficiency. We have been heading in that direction.
