Government Accelerates Construction of 93 Permanent People's School Buildings
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf stated that the government is continuously accelerating the construction process of dozens of permanent buildings in various districts and cities across Indonesia for the implementation of People’s Schools.
“There are already 93 People’s School buildings under construction. Around 69% will be completed in July for us to use as the first learning process, while 24% will, God willing, be functional,” said Minister Saifullah Yusuf at the event “Towards One Year of the People’s School Programme Journey: Strategic Achievements and Synergy for Sustainability” in Jakarta on Wednesday.
The construction of permanent People’s School buildings and their facilities is being carried out by the Ministry of Public Works.
Currently, 166 People’s School sites are still using temporary buildings owned by the central government or regional governments.
“As many as 166 People’s School sites are still using temporary buildings owned by the government, the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Ministry of Manpower, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, as well as regional governments,” said Saifullah Yusuf.
According to him, after the construction of permanent People’s School buildings is completed, the government will receive 32,000 new students in People’s Schools throughout Indonesia.
“That means this year (the target is) there will already be more than 45,000 People’s School students,” said Saifullah Yusuf.
Currently, there are 15,820 children from poor families recorded as students at 166 People’s School sites in 34 provinces.
In one year of the People’s School journey, according to him, there have been many achievements by the students, both at the national, provincial, and district/city levels.
This priority programme of President Prabowo Subianto aims to break the cycle of poverty in Indonesian society through education.
