Goud lifts Railways
PUNE, India: Yere Goud hit an unbeaten 89 to lift national champion Indian Railways to 370 for seven in its first innings at tea on the final day of its three-day game against West Indies on Saturday.
The 30-year-old held firm at one end to be in sight of his 11th first-class century as the home side were 79 runs adrift of West Indies's first innings 449 for eight declared.
Goud drove through the covers and played strongly off his pads for most of his 11 fours as Railways added another 104 runs to their lunch score of 266 for four wickets.
West Indies fast bowler Cameron Cuffy struck once in the session after his triple strikes in the morning, but the visitors' poor catching on the tour continued as they dropped two chances.
Cuffy trapped left-hander Raja Ali leg before for 16 after off-spinner Gareth Breese had captain Abhay Sharma caught at midwicket for 13 for his first victim.
The tall Cuffy, aiming to regain his place for the final Calcutta test after being ignored for the second game in Madras, was the most successful bowler, having taken four for 75.--Reuters
