GoTo has decided to discontinue the GoRide Hemat subscription scheme after a national trial, a move welcomed by several GoRide driver partners who argued the programme burdened drivers and caused jealousy among colleagues. One driver, Hendra Susilo (35), said he fully supported the removal of the scheme, deeming it ineffective for on-the-ground drivers. According to Hendra, the scheme did not always benefit drivers, even though they had paid the subscription fee. Similar views were shared by another driver, Bilal (33). He said the GoRide Hemat programme could lead to unequal treatment among drivers. Bilal noted the system of trip prioritisation under the programme risked souring relations between drivers. “So later we, as fellow drivers, it’s like pitting us against each other, as in ‘Oh I won’t join, you join, you’re the one who gets it.’ So it can create social jealousy. After all, we are colleagues on the road.” In addition, the subscription fee was seen as an extra burden, especially when orders were slow. Previously, GoTo had confirmed it would stop the GoRide Hemat subscription scheme for GoJek driver partners. GoTo’s Chief Executive Hans Patuwo said the decision would take effect soon after the company completed an evaluation of the program implemented in recent months. The GoRide Hemat subscription scheme was initially tested on a limited basis since November 2025 before being expanded nationwide to Indonesia in February 2026. Under the scheme, driver partners were required to pay a subscription fee to access certain tariffs or earnings structures, including order prioritisation. However, after three months nationwide, GoTo deemed the programme needed adjustments to maintain balance and the welfare of driver partners. “After three months, we conducted a thorough study and found that this subscription scheme needs a better balance for the welfare of driver partners,” Hans told a press conference at the GoTo office, Jakarta, on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. With the termination of the subscription scheme, the revenue-sharing mechanism for GoRide Hemat will be aligned with GoRide’s regular service. Going forward, driver partners will incur an 8 per cent deduction per trip.
