Gorontalo Utara Regency Deploys Aid to Flood Zones
Gorontalo (ANTARA) - The Gorontalo Utara Regency Government, Gorontalo Province, has started deploying aid to flood-affected areas in five villages in Biau District on Tuesday afternoon from 3:00 PM WITA until night.
“This evening, I am mobilising the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and Social Affairs Department teams to deliver emergency supplies to flood-affected residents in five villages in Biau District,” said Gorontalo Utara Regent Thariq Modanggu in Gorontalo on Tuesday.
“A communal kitchen must be set up tonight as affected residents urgently need assistance, especially since the floodwaters have not yet receded and rain continues to fall,” he added.
“He appealed for prayers and support from the entire community to expedite and facilitate flood response efforts.”
“All affected families are urged to remain resilient in facing this trial,” Thariq added.
“Floodwaters up to adult knee-height submerged the main Sulawesi cross-island road, temporarily disrupting transport access, but had receded by 6:00 PM WITA.”
“Hundreds of families were affected by the floods, with the worst impact in Didingga Village, where the Remote Indigenous Community (KAT) settlement was struck.”
“Sixty-four households were affected in the Didingga KAT, with three houses completely destroyed and one washed away by floodwaters, while parts of other kitchens were also swept away,” said Didingga Village’s Buade Hamlet Head Raden Hamsah.
“Some residents conducted self-evacuation to higher ground, while others remained indoors due to the strong flood currents making movement impossible. Authorities also continuously reminded residents to remain vigilant as strong flood currents persist.”
“We are patrolling accessible village areas, noting that floodwaters which previously reached window height have now receded to adult knee-level, but strong currents persist and the roads are pitch black, necessitating vigilance,” said Tolinggula Police Station Chief Aipda Oktavian Kansil.
