Gorontalo State University Strengthens Commitment to Inclusive Education with Disability Service Unit

Universitas Negeri Gorontalo (UNG) has officially established a disability services unit as part of strengthening its commitment to delivering higher education that is equal, inclusive and accessible to all.

Rector of UNG Prof Eduart Wolok in Gorontalo City on Wednesday said the inauguration of the disability services unit is a strategic step for UNG in building a campus environment that is increasingly accessible, equal and responsive to the diversity of student needs, particularly for persons with disabilities.

He said the disability services unit is part of the institution’s commitment to ensuring all students obtain equal rights and opportunities in accessing higher education.

The service is expected to become a service centre providing academic support, mentoring, and various forms of accessibility facilitation for students with disabilities.

“Higher education is not only about the delivery of learning, but also about how universities are able to create an environment that provides space for every individual to develop according to their potential,” he said.

Therefore, the existence of disability services is an important part of strengthening an educational ecosystem that values diversity, while ensuring no student faces barriers to learning and participating in campus life.

The presence of this unit will not only provide services for the UNG academic community, but will also be open to the public in Gorontalo Province who need information, consultation and support related to disability services.

“This openness reinforces UNG’s role as a higher education institution that not only carries out its educational function, but is also present to provide benefits to the wider community by helping to deliver services for people with disabilities,” he said.
