Gorontalo Secures Rp 2.4 Trillion Investment for Chicken Downstreaming
GORONTALO - The Provincial Government of Gorontalo has secured an investment worth Rp 2.4 trillion for the development of chicken downstreaming as part of strengthening the food and regional economy sectors. Governor of Gorontalo, Gusnar Ismail, stated that the programme is part of support for the President’s Asta Cita agenda in the field of food security. He explained that the local government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ID Food to accelerate the realisation of the project. According to him, construction will begin with a feed mill as the main foundation of the industry. “This is prioritised because Gorontalo’s base is corn production. Our corn production in 2024 is around 1.5 million tonnes, so feed raw materials will not be an issue,” he said. Gusnar explained that this chicken downstreaming project will be built in an integrated manner from upstream to downstream in several areas in Gorontalo. The locations are spread across North Gorontalo, Gorontalo Regency, Bone Bolango, Boalemo, to Pohuwato. Its development includes various facilities, starting from DOC (day old chick) or chick factories, feed factories, broiler and layer chicken farms, animal slaughterhouses (RPH), to cold storage. “So each has its own object,” said Gusnar. He added that transmigration areas will also be involved as part of the industrial ecosystem. Meanwhile, Deputy Minister of Transmigration, Viva Yoga Mauladi, stated that this downstreaming programme aligns with the development of transmigration areas based on local potential. According to him, the government encourages every transmigration area to have flagship products that can improve community welfare. “In the Gorontalo region, I think corn or coconut plantations, and then there will be a chicken downstreaming programme from Danantara,” said Viva Yoga. He emphasised that the transmigration programme does not only focus on population relocation, but also on economic development and infrastructure in those areas. In addition, the Ministry of Transmigration is also continuing to push for the resolution of land issues, including accelerating the issuance of Certificates of Ownership (SHM) for transmigration residents. In 2025, the government has completed 17,531 SHM nationally, and targets the remaining approximately 30 percent to be completed in 2026.
