Gorontalo Residents Startled by Loud Boom and Bright Flash of Light in the Early Hours

A loud booming sound was heard across almost the entire Gorontalo Province. The loud noise, resembling thunder or a heavy object falling, occurred at approximately 00:22 WITA.

Kayla Rahman, a resident of Gorontalo, admitted to being startled by the sound. She initially thought the boom was thunder signalling approaching rain. However, as of the time of this report, there has been no official information from relevant authorities regarding the origin of the sound.

“My whole family happened to be awake. At around 00:22 WITA, the booming sound was very clear and caused panic throughout the house,” said Kayla Rahman, a resident of North Gorontality.

Similarly, another resident, Ani Agustina, also reported hearing a similar boom. After hearing the noise, Ani searched social media to find out what had happened.

During her search, she discovered a post from a friend featuring a short video showing an object that appeared to be a falling meteor. Nevertheless, Ani expressed hope that the boom was merely a common natural phenomenon and not related to a natural disaster.

“I immediately searched for information on social media and found a friend’s post showing a short video that looked like a falling meteor. I hope this is just a natural event and does not lead to any distressing natural disasters,” she added.

Hamdan, a resident of Isimu, Gorontalo Regency, admitted to hearing the boom from inside his bedroom. He saw information on his social media accounts where several friends suspected the sound originated from a star or meteor falling near the Limboto area in Gorontalo Regency.

“I thought something had hit the roof of the house because the wind was also blowing quite strongly. However, when I went outside to check, no objects had fallen. Before the loud boom was heard, a very bright light was seen passing across the Gorontalo sky in the Telaga area of Gorontalo Regency. I hope there are no dangerous incidents or misfortunes. We pray to be spared from unwanted events while waiting for official information from the government or relevant official agencies,” said Hamdan, quoting a social media post accompanied by a short video.
