Gorontalo Regency Regional Council seeks solutions to regional investment barriers
The Gorontalo Regency Regional Council (DPRD) has called upon the local government, particularly relevant departments, to immediately find solutions to various obstacles deemed to be narrowing the investment space in the region.
The Chairman of Commission II of the Gorontalo Regency DPRD, Arifin Kilo, stated in Gorontalo on Monday that this follows a thorough evaluation of the 2026 work programme of the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (PTSP). This evaluation was conducted as part of the legislature’s oversight function regarding its working partners to ensure regional programmes run optimally.
Arifin noted that this step is also part of an effort to strengthen a dynamic partnership between the DPRD and relevant agencies. He emphasised that through strict oversight, the DPRD is committed to monitoring every policy and programme implementation to ensure they remain within the correct corridors and deliver positive impacts for the region.
During the meeting, the PTSP Agency reported several constraints, primarily related to facing budget limitations. The minimal budget allocation is considered to restrict the agency’s ability to provide stimuli or incentives for external investors to plant capital in Gorontalo Regency.
Commission II of the DPRD, according to Arifin, is concerned about the various complaints and aspirations presented by the agency regarding these operational hurdles. Currently, the council is collecting and summarising all crucial points that act as barriers in the investment service sector as part of an effort to find solutions.
“The PTSP Agency is a partner to DPRD Commission II. We evaluated all programmes implemented in 2026. Several issues emerged from the agency’s concerns, particularly regarding the budget and how they will move to provide stimulus for investment activities in this region,” he said.
The DPRD emphasised that the investment incentive in Gorontalo Regency must not weaken simply due to budgetary issues. Consequently, the results of the evaluation and the summary of aspirations will be brought to a higher level for discussion to find concrete solutions.
As a follow-up, the DPRD is scheduled to hold a special meeting with the local government to discuss the evaluation results and formulate budget policies that are more supportive of strengthening the regional investment sector.
“We are looking for the obstacles that hinder or narrow the investment space so that it can become more fluid and provide a macro-economic impact for the region,” said Arifin.
