Gories to head city detectives

JAKARTA (JP): Col. Gories Mere, well known for his involvement in the arrest of the Ecstasy-case suspect Zarina in Houston, Texas, last year, will head the city detective agency, City Police confirmed yesterday.

City Police Spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday that the current head of detectives, Col. Paimin Aboeamr had been taking a course with National Institute for Resilience since April 7.

Gories, now one of West Java's chief detectives, will move to Jakarta following the National Police Chief decree No. SKEP/363/IV/1997, dated April 11, 1997, Aritonang said.

"But we have no idea when the post will be transferred from Paimin to Gories," he said.

Gories, born in Medan, North Sumatra on Nov. 17, 1954, has a reputation for intelligence in his police work.

Gories graduated from the National Police Academy in 1976.

Aritonang said that Lt. Col. Makbul Padmanegara would replace Gories as head of West Java police detectives. (sur)
