GoRide Hemat and GrabBike Hemat Subscription Removal for Drivers: What It Means for Passengers
GoRide Hemat and GrabBike Hemat subscription schemes aimed at online motorcycle taxi (ojek) drivers are being discontinued as Gojek and Grab unwind the programmes.
The policy was welcomed by a number of drivers who argued the schemes burdened them in practice. Under the scheme, drivers paid a subscription fee to receive priority on discounted rides. However, several drivers complained that the extra cost did not always correspond to the number of orders received. Moreover, the priority order system was seen as sowing jealousy among drivers since only certain partners enjoyed greater access to orders.
So, what will be the impact of scrapping these driver subscriptions on users?
According to Hans, the effect of the policy change will be felt in how the price of GoRide Hemat is adjusted for consumers. ‘The impact of this, specifically for the GoRide Hemat service, will be a consumer price adjustment that is very measured. We will ensure these adjustments are carried out in a measured way while prioritising affordability for the public,’ Hans said at a Jakarta press briefing on Tuesday, 19 May 2026. He also confirmed that regular GoRide fares would not rise. He noted that the regular GoRide is still used more by customers than GoRide Hemat.
Meanwhile, Grab Indonesia CEO Neneng Goenadi said the GrabBike Hemat service will remain available to consumers even though the driver subscription programme is being halted. However, customers will still encounter price adjustments for trips. ‘Grab Indonesia emphasises that GrabBike Hemat for consumers will remain available with price adjustments implemented in a measured manner, while continuing to prioritise affordability for the public,’ Neneng said in a statement on Wednesday, 20 May 2026. Neneng also confirmed that there will be no fare rise for GrabBike Standard.
One driver, Hendra Susilo (35), assessed that the programme actually burdened drivers because the subscription cost did not always correspond to the orders received.
