Jakarta (ANTARA) – GoPay has launched its GoPay Digital Gold Investment feature to meet people’s financial needs, offering a safe and convenient way to invest without requiring substantial capital.

“The product allows users to buy and sell digital gold instantly at affordable prices,” GoPay Consumer Business Director Kelvin Timotius told the media at the product launch in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The product can be purchased using an account separate from the one used for everyday transactions, encouraging users to be more disciplined in developing an investment habit.

The innovation comes amid growing public awareness of protecting the value of assets, including through gold investment, although a number of obstacles remain.

According to the World Gold Council’s Gold Demand Trends report, published in July 2026, gold demand in Indonesia reached 15 tonnes in the second quarter of 2026, a significant 40 per cent increase year on year.

However, the company’s research among people aged 25 to 30 found several barriers to investing in gold, including limited time to visit physical outlets, a shortage of physical gold on the market, and the risk of loss or theft.

“As a technology company, our focus is on delivering product innovations that solve these problems. That is why we are launching a digital gold investment product to open up access, so anyone can grow their money safely in the GoPay app,” Kelvin said.

He added that the product was designed in response to users’ needs and to address their concerns about investing, including whether they had enough funds to buy gold.

GoPay Digital Gold by Treasury therefore offers purchases at very affordable prices to dispel the perception that investing requires a large amount of capital.

“People are already very familiar with gold as an investment instrument because it is easy to understand and its value tends to be stable. However, saving in gold is often seen as an expensive investment,” he said.

GoPay aims to change that perception by allowing users to buy digital gold flexibly, starting from Rp1,000.

Alongside investment flexibility, GoPay says it continues to prioritise the security of users’ accounts and transactions. Every transaction in the GoPay app is protected by multiple layers of security, including two-factor authentication (2FA), such as PINs, one-time passwords (OTPs) and biometric authentication.

GoPay Digital Gold by Treasury is the result of a partnership between GoPay and PT Indonesia Digital Emas, which is licensed and supervised by Bappebti.
